Ayurvedic therapy is a truly
holistic approach to achieving and maintaining wellness based on
thousands of years of scientific study. It is the original source of
knowledge on yoga, meditation, astrology, healing herbs, color therapy,
music therapy, gemstones, etc.
Treatment sessions begin with a
client consultation. This helps to determine which specific herbs, oils
and creams will be most appropriate for the client, according to which
doshas are predominant for the person at that time. Properly balancing
the doshas helps eliminate dysfunction and enhances health. Any
imbalances of the three doshas may affect our mental, emotional and
physical health.
When Vata is out of balance
digestive disturbances, nervous headaches, anxiety and dryness of the
skin, etc may manifest. When Pitta is out of balance heartburn,
psoriases, burning conditions, impatience, etc may manifest. When Kapha
is out of balance edema, obesity, lethargy, bronchial infections, etc
may manifest. When there is perfect balance of these three doshas there
is excellent health, mental alertness and boundless energy.
Ayurveda provides a model to look
at each individual as a unique makeup of the three doshas and to thereby
design treatment protocols that specifically address a person’s health
challenges. When any of the doshas become dominant, Ayurveda will
suggest specific lifestyle and nutritional guidelines to assist the
individual in reducing the dosha that has become excessive. Herbal
supplements may be suggested to facilitate the healing process. When one
or more dosha has become aggravated or excessive it often hinders the
proper functioning of the other doshas as well as physiological and
mental processes. In such circumstances there is usually blockage in the
gross and subtle channels of the body where Aama (toxins) tends to
accumulate.

The nose is the doorway to the brain and it is also the doorway to

foot massage. After a deep eucalyptus steam inhalation, warm herbalized
oil is applied to the face and head which are then massaged by
stimulating Marma (Ayurvedic acupressure) points. Specific care is given
to the cheekbones, temples and sinuses in order to release impurities
and alleviate pressure. A few drops of medicated Nasya oil are then
slowly dropped into each nostril. The sinus areas are again massaged
followed by a brief massage of the head, ears and neck. Nasya purifies
and nourishes delicate membranes in the nose connected to the senses of

intellect and creating a free rhythm of breath.
